SANDHILLS RIDE 2010 AKA Hoffman Game Lands
After an unusually wet and cold winter, it seemed that the first of the year would never get here .
The mules as well as ourselves were excited to see old and new friends in the sand hills of Hoffman,
NC. This ride was held at the Hoffman game lands and lead us towards Camp MacKall military
training area. The wagons started out at a brisk pace in the soft sand, that kept the riders busy just
to keep them in sight. The weather was exceptionally nice with the temperatures in the mid 70's,
though that may have been a little warm for the mules, with their winter hair still holding on. We had
lunch at an old tank that is still used for practice and managed to get nearly everyone on or near it
for a group picture. At the end of the day, we lost some folks that had to leave for home and gained
some newcomers for the Sunday ride. Dinner was served and everyone seemed happy and full. The
evening was spent around the fire, catching up on the events, both past and future.
On Sunday, a smaller group started out with directions from Kenny for a short ride. The wagons
were loading up for the trip home and we headed out towards Lake Kenny Cameron and the memorial
for the fallen paratroopers. This memorial was placed at the lake in honor of the WWII paratroopers
who died in a training exercise, when they landed in the lake and drowned in 1944. It made me want
to thank and honor all the military personnel, both past and present, who have served our country and
enable us to enjoy the beautiful country where we have our rides. THANK YOU for yor sacrifices!!!
We then made our way back to the starting point and ended the week-end. It was good to see everyone
and hope to see you at the next event.
Thanks to Kenny Tyndall for hosting this ride. Next ride is H. Cooper Black.
See Ya there,
Teddy Royal
