Uwharrie Ride Spring 2010
The week-end finally arrived, and muleskinners headed to 4-B Farm for the spring ride. On Saturday
there were about 29 riders that headed out for an adventure along the river and Hang Glide Hill. The
constant breezes and overcast skies were welcome as the temperatures rose to the 80's. The mules
worked up a sweat as we climbed the back side of the mountain and arrived on the top. After eating
lunch and resting the mules, we headed back down the other side of the mountain and rode the trails
along the creeks and through the woods. We made our way back to camp in time to unsaddle and
take care of the mules, before heading to the outdoor shelter for dinner. Everyone brought side dishes
and deserts to go with Tony's big grill full of chicken. After dinner we had our board meeting. It didn't
take long for the group to venture towards the campfire, and even a shorter amount of time before
heading to bed.
On Sunday, we rode out as the temperature and humidity began to rise. After about a 3 hour ride, we
returned to camp and said our goodbyes, until the next ride.
Our thanks to Barry Greene for hosting the ride and Tony McMasters and family for grilling chicken,
and everyone who brought side dishes and deserts.
The next ride is at Collins Cove campground, in Ivanhoe, Va. Hope you can make it,
Teddy Royal
